The competition aims to tap the youth's perspective on the theme, "Making Growth Work for the Poor", which is also the World Bank’s theme for its new Country Assistance Strategy (CAS) for the Philippines. Five grand prize winners illustrating five categories will receive Php50,000 each while 15 finalists will receive PhP5,000 each. The categories are: Building a stable macro economy Making the Philippines a good place to do business Working with local communities and improving access to education, health care, safe drinking water and other basic services Protecting the poor, especially in times of economic crisis, natural disasters and armed conflict Improving governance and citizen involvement for better transparency and accountability The winning photographs will be featured in World Bank publications and other information materials. Through the competition, the World Bank hopes to encourage awareness of social issues among the youth by capturing in photos their understanding of the theme “Making Growth Work for the Poor” and how they see this happening in their families, communities and the country. “We believe in the creativity of the Filipino youth. We hope that this is one way for young people to think of how growth could benefit more poor people in the country,” says Leonora Aquino-Gonzales, Senior External Relations Officer of the World Bank. The photo competition will run until the 16th of October, and the winning entries will be announced in November 2009. #### All news articles and audio video media productions courtesy of BBiTV and/or its network channel stations affiliates/newsfeeds.
