Happy June! We hope you enjoy our new logo and look.Published: Tue, 02 Jun 2009 15:51:45 GMTLast month we issued the Fourth Mothers Who Make A Difference list and celebrated all mothers. This month we would like to salute all of the wonderful fathers as we celebrate the loving example of your life this Father's Day. You bless not only your own children and family, but also all others who have the special privilege of knowing you. Thank you for "fathering," mentoring, guiding, and nurturing your children and those whose paths you cross. SUMMER SAFETY Summer is a time for school classrooms and hallways to empty and the awaited anticipation of our childrens' fun and play time. Yet, emergency rooms across the country call summertime 'the trauma season for kids. From the heat to pools to bike riding, parents need to be on alert. Childhood memories are filled with summertime fun which means trips to the beach, ice cream, and rides at the amusement park. While your family enjoys the summer, emergency room doctors don't enjoy what they refer to as the trauma season. This summer children ages 14 and under will be rushed to emergency rooms nearly 3 million times for serious injuries resulting from motor vehicle crashes, drownings, bike crashes, pedestrian incidents, falls and other hazards. More than 2,500 children will die. Tragedies rise and nearly half (40 percent) of all unintentional injury-related deaths occur during the summer months (May to August) because children are supervised less, have more free time and are involved in more outdoor activities. Close supervision, proper protective gear, and other simple prevention steps will help keep your child safe. Growing up in a violent home can set patterns for children ... patterns that can cause them to commit violence and abuse, and continue the cycle of violence and abuse. Violence is learned behavior. It is completely preventable. Click Here To Learn More SEXTING If parents didn't have enough to worry about before, there is a new worry and it's called SEXTING. MAKING A DIFFERENCE Recently, a 13 year-old girl contacted us because her friend was being bullied at school. Love Our Children USA gave her ideas and resources on how she could help her friend. The bullying stopped, and she is starting a bullying prevention committee at school using Love Our Children USA's information and materials. This is just one story of how Love Our Children USA makes a difference. And in this economy, it's becoming increasingly more difficult to help all those who need our help. We know that everyone is hurting in this economic climate, but it is our hope that you will still make a donation -- even if it's the smallest amount, because every dollar helps! You donations enable us to focus on public education, community outreach & awareness, bullying & cyberbullying prevention, Internet safety, parenting education, advocacy, create a 24-hour toll-free hotline, give scholarships to aged-out foster youth, produce and distribute over 35 guides for parents and children, maintain and enhance our extensive web resources, conduct the necessary research to help focus on the trends of violence against children and produce effective anti-violence messages.
